I might have to take tomorrow off of work

    Technically today I suppose…

Something is terribly terribly wrong with the American Psyche not being able to elect a woman as president

It’s not over yet, but it should have been a landslide.

I don’t know how to come to terms with the fact that my neighbors would rather have this orange fucker in office then a competent woman.

    Nuance is dead…

Bruh I’m from the EU and we’re inching closer and closer to the same thing in every country, any EU citizen being smug about it has no fucking legs to stand on

It depends on the country you’re in I guess but I would say that generally speaking the EU right wing parties are a bit less extreme than Trump appears to be going to be this time around. I don’t know of any EU countries where they are planning to get rid of all immigrants among other things. Tbh, the person you can compare Trump to most is Hitler. And he has compared himself to Hitler too, which makes it even more crazy.

Sure, but you can bet right-wing parties around Europe are taking notes right now and will get closer and closer to Trump in the next few years, just like they did last time

Agree. Looking back at the outcome of last EU parliament elections. Looking at the political situation in France, Germany, Austria, Italy… We are fucked.

Yes, current polls show Afd and CDU/CSD having over 50% combined in Germany. We are no better

We definitely have a problem with fascism in Europe too. That said, we do have systems in place that curb any power they have, at least somewhat.

We need to stand up and resist the collapse of western democracy before its too late. Vote, correct misinformation, run for office, be annoying as hell.

The third party barely split any vote, american just literally look at human feces and say “woah, i’m gonna vote for him”.

You know, as someone outside the US, I was pretty confident in this election. Harris seemed like a candidate that could stand against Trump in a way that Hillary Clinton never was. I had stopped worrying and even thought the people here were being dramatic in thinking Trump was actually going to get reelected.

    Well, there goes that…

How? Harris was/is the same centrist neoliberal “hold your nose and vote for her” slop Clinton was.

Hillary was the lightning rod of the party for 20 years. If thought that that had something to do with it. There’s something we aren’t acknowledging. There’s a something wrong in the heart of America and its growing, not shrinking. Whatever that emotion that’s driven it, it’s not going away.

It’s because after she was the nominee the same campaign team that Clinton had took over. All the good work her team did was for nothing as everything was scraped and 2016 came again

Imo it’s first past the post. When there are only two choices, it doesn’t matter how insane one choice is, as long as you’re against the other, you’ll go with the the first choice. Furthermore, the dichodomy favors ‘extremism’, while hindering nuance.

Canada will likely end up in the same situation if we don’t pass proportional representation in time for the 2025 election.

Because… Palestine? Or buttery males? Or because they will grab onto any excuse to sit on their lazy asses instead of voting, and that impulse to do nothing intensifies with a female presidential candidate?

Yes, it is retarded. Almost to the goddamned Middle Ages in some respects. And its’ younger generations are just as stunted and stupid as the boomers they howl against. The deaf and blind screaming at the deaf and blind.

Looks like OP could use the reminder that being angry at fascists doesn’t make it ok to throw disabled people under the bus because you can’t come up with words to describe your feelings, however valid, without slurs.

ableism is the weapon of the enemy, we do not need it we will not use it

Hey, look, you found a word to describe the situation that isn’t a slur, in your attempt to excuse and justify the use of a slur!

Pro tip: work on your internalised and lateral ableism. Or at the very least, don’t be that person who gives people a pass on behalf of an entire community, because you personally don’t think it affects you or others like you, because there isn’t one.
