I, too, remember the times when we had to sacrifice a robot every time we wanted to connect to the internet.
The Pipe Gods must be appeased
Here you go: https://youtu.be/vvr9AMWEU-c?si=poRGJpubg7ockQ6Q
- hit of nostalgia if you’re old
- education if you’re young
Watching that was a huge hit of nostalgia, was saying “Mm mmmm” and making a stank face it was so good
Also, kshhhhhhshhhhhhhhhhhh…
Don’t forget the bedonk bedonk bedonk
I swear the faster modems also made a bell-like “clong” sound
…fingers crossed!
I’m confused. I thought we were talking about the internet, not the sound your mom makes?
If you think your mom isn’t on the internet, have I got a hot URL for you.
The internet used to scream at you when you went online. Now it’s the reverse.
HOW DARE YOU WRITE SOMETHING THAT HITS ME SO DEEP, I NEVER SHOUT AT THE INTERNET
AOL sounds in the background…
RIP AOL You’ve Got Mail guy.
Wait, he’s dead‽
Yep, died this past Nov.
Crap
It was more of a: PEEEEEEEEEEEEE-OOOOOOOOOOO-AAAAAHHHHHHH-EYON-EYON
P̷͕̻̕Ś̸̟͓̻H̷̳̥̑̈͘H̵̱̿̚H̸͎̾̚H̴̙̜̅̈̓͌Ḩ̵̫̗̩́̆̌Ḣ̵̼͎̞́̏̇H̵͈̩͉͠H̷̰̼̿͌́͠H̶͈̻̏́̕H̷̲̩́́͌̔H̶̙̱̮̕Ḣ̸̟̤́̍̓Ḧ̵̗̹́̿̉̏H̶͉̟̀̃̃̇Ḩ̷̺̏͝Ȟ̵̢͉̺̆̕
When I was that age, the internet did not make modem sounds. Because the fridge-sized computers in the server room (with way less power than a cell phone) had no dialup.
Being able to log in to the internet with an actual modem came much later.
There was a checkbox to mute the noise on the dialer. We had 2 phone lines, so I’ve been terminally online since windows 3.11, and I very rarely heard heard the dial up noise
That sound was the best part of connecting to the internet, like a liminal space
DEE-DEE-DEE-DEE-EE-ER-EE-EE-CHHHHHHHHHTTT
Now it goes skibidi sigma whatever the hell these brain rots say…
Hell, that was the sound of my games loading.
