Very meh
There’s also some modders who make transparent aftermarket housings.
Transparent plastics are the tastiest!
They’re also the most brittle which I think is a reason for their dissapearance
OP how the fuck could you forget these
I deeply miss my glacier blue n64. I keep hoping for a shell for steak deck in that color.
Mmmm. Steak.
Steak. Lots of steak. I f**ing love steak. "

The Steak Deck. When you want to enjoy a perfectly grilled T-Bone on a transatlantic flight
I too yearn for a glacier blue shell for my steak deck
You can buy aftermarket shells like that, or very similar, I just worry the fit and finish won’t be quite as nice
I’ve seen them but can’t find any in that color.
Oh bummer, I hope you find the right color some day :)
I am really hoping someone makes a repopped shell for the analogue 3d and the 8bitdo controllers. I would absolutely splash for an og dk green set.
There’s a whole series of Xbox controllers like this. I have the clear one and it’s fucking dope.
Prison commissary type beat
Memory unlocked with that Memorex cassette.
Not Memorex, but it unlocked this memory: https://youtu.be/Zk71h2CQ_xM
Fun fact: some of these are made specifically for US prisons because you can’t hide contraband in them.
Welp, that’s enough dystopian reality for me today. I was actually hoping to have these for repairability and easier chip identification, but nope, built for prisons you say…
Yeah. They are often very locked down and lack features you would normally expect - especially connectivity and configurability. There’s a Youtube vid where a guy gets hold of one and the hoops he had to go through to install his own OS and get it to run some games… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRoRPiDOtUg
Bringus mentioned let’s go
I love the idea that a product was created to prevent prisoners from smuggling heroin, but then someone said “You know, I bet that would sell great at Sharper Image.”
I would love one of those coloful macbooks from the 90s with current technology.
That watch is a Swatch and they still make new transparent models, I got one a few months back and posted it to the watch sub.

Lol, that’s fucking great!
My missus got a set of Slime VR trackers and they’re all transparent purple plastic. Very 90s.
Had some of those memorex cassettes
Why did they stop ?
Truly. But I can’t guess why.
Because if the cover is transparent you have to spend extra money to make sure the internals look good.
Yeah can imagine that. But the free cable era seem finished. Now every cable is printed on a board
Anbernic does a lot of this for retro consoles these days!
I had an atomic purple gameboy at one point and I miss that thing dearly.
I really enjoy seeing the components of a thing and most of my mechanical keyboards have translucent or semi-translucent cases.
They’re not high-tech, but “demonstrator” editions of fountain pens also hit this vibe.
And if anyone is curious, I’m pretty sure the watch in this image is a Swatch JellyFish (or an imitation). Swatch still makes watches like this, but this style is called Clearly Gent now.
