alright second time I’ve heard egg w.r.t trans culture. What does it mean?
Edit: Coming out of your shell, both physically and mentally?
An egg is someone who doesn’t realise they are trans, or who are first questioning their gender. Less commonly, it is also used for those that question their sexual/romantic orientation.
On that note, there is the egg prime directive - an informal name for the custom in queer* communities, that we never make an egg come out or tell for them what they are, unless if they specifically ask what their eggy stuff indicates. Being an ally to them helps, though, so they can feel comfortable and supported in their journey. The reason the egg prime directive is commonly used, is because coming out is scary and either way, whatever gender one turns out to be, the outcome is better when one can figure it out for themselves. Because only you can look into your own mind.
* using queer here as a catchall for anything non-cishet.
to my understanding, yes
that’s pretty cool
I thought a phoenix motif would fit better, but I like the imagery of always having been a chick, and then spreading your wings past a hard exterior
Goddamn an egg is perfect imagery actually
also it fits very well with how most people discover they’re trans. there are specific events that sit in the back of your mind but you don’t pay attention to them for whatever reason, those are similar to tiny cracks. then suddenly enough cracks build up and the whole thing falls apart in a matter of days or even hours.
haha it does seem like that from the few that I’ve known
