Well, in so much as you need to prove you’re above a certain age.
The best way to do that (in the US) is with a driver’s license.
Lots of states issue IDs from the DMV with equivalent protection features as a driver’s license, but isn’t a license. Those are good enough.
It’s not the specific driver’s license that matters. The point is that it’s still an ID and still a control over who can get it.
You’d think people would get that point when you say license you just meant “they have to ID you when you buy them”
