“Stupid people always say no” does not imply other people do any different.

Yup, just walk away… or answer ‘no’ since smart folks don’t always say ‘yes’

Stupid people always say no. There are no rules given for what smart people say. One could answer no to the question and the stupid people rule may not be applicable.

Also, “Stupid people always say ‘No’” is an incorrect statement. Only a Sith deals in absolutes!

All !do is do not (!do); all do is do. [law of non-contradiction]. All try = do or !do [succeeds or fails, proven by observation]

Therefore, no try != Not (do or !do)

Therefore try is a useless term / there is no distinct “try” that is neither do nor do not.

One must do or do not; there is no try.

          Quod Erat Demonstrandum

This is true only in hindsight though. You will always have done or not done even if you always set out to “do”. From this perspective it makes “don’t try” a little fatalistic, no?

Man, I have two competing takes on this…

The statement “stupid people always say no” doesn’t prevent other classifications of people from saying no as well. Therefore someone saying “no” doesn’t give you any information on whether or not they are stupid.

    And

All humans are obviously stupid, lol

You can always just say no, since the condition is “always say no”.

First of all, where’s the proof for the assertation that stupid people answer no? Secondly, how do you operationalise stupid? And finally, is the best person to adjudicate whether a given person is stupid really themself?

  • @marcos@lemmy.world

That doesn’t mean smart people can’t say “no”.

Just because I’m saying “no”, it doesn’t mean I am stupid!

I mean, I am stupid. But that’s not because I’m saying “no”!

Exactly. The fallacy of undistributed middle is strong with this OP…

All stupid people are no-sayers. (DU) You are a no-sayer. (DU) Therefore you are a stupid person. (DU) AAA syllogism - invalid due to above fallacy.

“The middle term must be distributed at least once.”
