Most people have their attention decided by a combination of biology and social norms, but can learn to direct it themselves. So if you’re really hungry, maybe you can’t stop thinking about a sandwich. But most of the time your boss can tell you to pay attention and you will, and you can mediate and think of nothing with practice.
When you have ADHD, your attention can’t be controlled by social norms, and the biology of your attention is different. And it’s harder to learn to control it yourself. In school, you literally can’t pay attention if you don’t find the subject interesting, it’s too much work. And maybe instead of being hungry and thinking of a sandwich, you’ll go on Wikipedia to learn about the history of snail entomology and end up going 10 hours without food or water. The way your attention moves around is dysregulated. That’s ADHD. Learning to control your attention is an uphill battle, and you’ll never develop a single habit.
That’s a technical argument. Technical arguments don’t work on transphobes because transphobes aren’t motivated by logic, they’re motivated by emotion. The correct argument to use on a transphobe is one that humiliates them in the eyes of all onlookers. The only way to reform a transphobe is public shame.
They’re saying it in this article because Elon is being transphobic on purpose to manufacture controversy on the same day it’s announced that he’s now halved the value of Twitter. He doesn’t want people talking about what a financial loser he is, so he’s trying to make people talk about what a transphobe he is
There’s an episode of King Of The Hill where Hank makes Bobby dress up as a girl for a drag show. He even helps Bobby buy a bra and gives lots of advice from personal experience.
Hank is also incapable of saying the word “gay”, and was mentally incapable of understanding that a trans woman and her boymode persona were the same person.
In my country, your birth certificate has both your deadname and your new name on it if you changed your name. When I signed up for PayPal, I had already transitioned, so I put in my current, legal name. PayPal asked for proof that I am who I claim to be, to prevent fraud. Fair enough, I gave them my birth certificate. They looked at it, and then changed the name on my account to my deadname, which was no longer my legal name. When I told them to change it back, they said I’d have to submit a change of name form.
I knew Musk was transphobic sooner than most of the public did after that experience.
Oh, because if the month you chose has less than 31 days, it’ll assume the 31st of September is the 1st of October? That’s reasonable.
