It encourages self-reliance and fosters a sense of control. Sure everything in our lives is increasingly forced on us by corporations run by out of touch narcissists, but there’s at least one way we still can have control of our own.

The tip is also often pocketed by the owner because of the way a tipped wage works (basically if there aren’t enough tips to cover minimum wage, it’s as if you are tipping the owner), and also the payment provider (square or whatever) takes a cut of the tip and whatever fees too. Every dollar should be regarded as going to the owner and/or silicon valley billionaires no matter what, the whole notion of paying staff is smoke and mirrors.

Let’s be real, teenagers are always assholes. There’s a lot of social pressure for teens to be assholes. Look at any teen movie for example, the plot is pretty much always about how adults are wrong about everything and how freeing yourself to be more of an asshole (and generally louder in every way) is the way to go.

That’s the thing about memes. They’re not really a rational form of discussing a topic, and tend to exploit emotions to boost their spread. But it seems to be more or less the only form of discussing things nowadays. The result is that as a society we no longer solve anything, and only work together to make things worse now.

I would empty that place in an evening of “just one more slice and I’ll go to bed”

Depends. Speaking from a lot of experience being a socially awkward guy, the following helps:

• Improving fitness and wearing clothes that show it, getting rid of any terrible haircuts.
• Having standards other than appearance and focusing on that from the start. This means rejecting attractive people who aren’t a good personality/etc. fit. Why does this help? It leads to better conversations and less wasted time.
• Attitude of trying to laugh/have fun/be fun. She’s not into FOSS and motorcylces? Ok, don’t keep bringing it up then, instead talk about something you both like (and if you followed the above, there should be something).

I’m just amazed that anyone thinks a metal coffee tumbler is superior in any way.

Here’s the ultimate way to drink coffee, after years of experience trying different things:

• large double-walled borosilicate glass mug. You can find several versions of this on amazon, get one that fits your cupholder.
• plastic lid from any other travel cup for when you need it, usually it fits pretty well

The only downside is you will occasionally drop it and it will shatter into a million tiny pieces.

Back when radio shack was there to help you figure out how to connect the thing to the other thing. The usual problem was you had the one multi-colored thing, and the thing it was supposed to connect to did not have matching colors or matching anything at all.
