As a German/English bilingual speaker who doesn’t live in Europe. Dutch will never not be a really weird German/English hybrid in my mind.

Mexicans do bastardize the cuisine of every other country (much like the US).

For example, most sushi rolls come with cream cheese in them. You have to ask for your roll without cream cheese.

However, there is also tons more delicious food to find here (also like the US).

          Typing from tijuana.

And that’s a good thing, it got you the trompo and al pastor.

Interesting, I’m not that familiar with the history. I’m from the US living here. But al pastor is delicious (adobada here in tijuana).

Came from Lebanese immigrants, now a regular fast food.
Obviously they didn’t use pork but lamb (like the pita/shoarma we got to know in Europe) but Mexicans love their pork.

The last years we have some real Mexicans opening restaurants here (Belgium) which are OC good.
But I had to learn to cook it myself (you can buy/order all the ingredients) since I couldn’t wait until it started getting popular.
There is however one French chain OTacos which, opened here and it’s a crime against Mexican food.
The Mexicans should open a court case for reputation dammage.

        Turkish Kapsolon pancake

Sir, being turkish AND having enjoyed the Turko-Dutch dish Kapsolon I demand satisfaction. Kapsolon is basically döner with Edam/Gouda/Dutch cheese, making it a fusion dish made by immigrants using local ingredients, you can get fucked if it’s not döner and doesn’t have cheese on it.

Kapsalon also has fries underneath the döner. So if it isn’t a pancake topped with fries, döner and cheese it ain’t a Kapsalon pancake.

You probably already worked it out from that other comment, but we Germans call our language “Deutsch” which yes, is a distinct language from “Dutch”.

Germans speak deutsch, whereas the Dutch speak Nederlands. The German language is just called German in English, and the Dutch language is just called Dutch.

No expert myself but what I know is that’s the weird and mysterious one.
The rest is just confusing for those not familiar.

I was mostly making a joke, part of the reason Frisian is so weird is because it’s rather ancient. Its an ancestor language of Dutch and a cousin language of English, hell my dialect is so gutteral that Frisian is more intelligible than some rural British dialects.

They are all Germanic languages, so related.
Still there’s some elements in it they can’t explain.
I hear it’s the same with Hungarian, that for some unknown reason has some Finnish elements in it apparently.
